Transport

Monaco has no airport. The nearest airport is 22km away in Nice (NCE). You can access there by Air Delta (Non-Stop), Air Canada or the main European Airlines (Air France, Lufthansa, Swiss Air etc) with transit at main European cities. The regional trains (TER) is convenience from Nice-Ville station to Monaco-Monte Carlo station. Bus run regular to Monaco from airport. An express shuttle, route 110, links the Nice Côte d'Azur Airport and the principality. Taxis are always available outside the terminal the buildings. If you have not plenty of time, you can also take a helicopter from Nice Côte d'Azur Airport and get to Fontvielle, Monaco directly.

Plane

Air Delta flies direct (8h40mts) from New York JFK Internazional Airport to Nice Côte-d'Azur International Airport, besides it, Air Canada and other minor airline companies are also available. Nice international Airport is around 40 kilometres (24 miles) away from the city-centre in neighbouring France. It operates daily flights from nearly all of Europe's main cities, such as London and Paris.

Helicopter

Heli-Air Monaco also operates helicopter services between Nice and Fontvieille, Monaco. After collecting your luggage at the Nice airport, you go to the helicopter service waiting area. The helicopter ground crew takes you and your luggage from the Nice airport to the Nice heliport, on the other side of the airport, by van. The flight along the coast is beautiful, and you land right at the water's edge at the Monaco heliport, where a car service takes you directly to your hotel. Rates vary seasonally, in the range of €100-300.

Train

You can enter in Monaco from France or Italy. The Monaco-Monte Carlo station has good service to most of neighboring France and Italy. There are 2-4 services per hour to Monaco from Nice, Cannes, Menton and Ventimiglia (Italy). Most international trains will stop, such as the 'Ligure' which links Marseilles and Milan, the 'train bleu' which operates between Paris and Ventimiglia, and the famous high-speed TGV which runs between Nice and Paris. A TGV train between Paris and Monte Carlo takes around 6 and a half hours. Be aware that there's no left-luggage in the train station nor in the rest of Monaco. There's a law in Monaco forbidding leaving bags etc.
It's available the regional trains (TER) from Nice-Ville station to Monaco-Monte Carlo station. It is faster (22mts) and easier. It costs 3.60 €. There are about 2 regional trains per hour in daytime until late at night. Last one leaves from Nice 22:25 and from Monaco 23:12 on weekdays.
The train ticket machines only accept credit cards that have computer chips (no magnetic stripe reader) or coins.

Bus

An express shuttle, route 110, links the Nice Côte d'Azur Airport and the Principality. A bus leaves every half hour and a single ticket costs €20 (Jul 2013). The bus stops near all major hotels throughout Monaco, not just Monte Carlo.

Taxi

Taxis are always available outside the terminal buildings - although make sure a fee is agreed in advance or the meter is indeed switched on at the start of the journey, as shady French taxi drivers are notorious for charging tourists whatever they see fit.

Getting around in Monaco

It's very easy walking around in Monaco. There are many elevators which make us easy to reach a number of places. Of course you can use some transports available (bus, taxi, and bikes). If you are interested in sailing or taking a fancy car, you can rent those fantastic vehicles at a rental agency. Adventurous people can also try to take a helicopter flying over Côte d'Azur! It promises you a great experience.

Train

The Monaco-Monte Carlo station has good service to most of neighboring France and Italy. There are 2-4 services per hour to Nice, Cannes, Menton and Ventimiglia (Italy).
Trains to and from Monte Carlo run every 15 minutes until late at night. The line is serviced by SNCF Regional Trains, which is the railway provider of Monaco.
The train ticket machines only accept credit cards that have computer chips (no magnetic stripe reader) or coins. If you plan to come back buy your return also (5.40 with return), ticket is open and you can validate it in auto machines without hour commitment of a particular train.

Be aware that there's no left-luggage in the train station nor in the rest of Monaco.

Bikes

We can rent them on quai des Etats-Unis on the port. But walking is a good way to get around Monaco and you can take advantage of the free public lifts linking the lower and higher streets.

Bus

The Monegasque Bus Company (Companie des Autobus de Monaco) operates six lines with departures approximately every 11 minutes, Monday throuth Friday, from 7:00 to 21:00. A flat rate is applied whatever the destinations. However, cards for 10 journeys can be purchased at a reduced rate (6€). Tickets can be purchased on board the buses themselves (2€), at many news vendors and shops throughout the city and at auto ticket machines in the stops (1.50€). A daily pass allows you to use the buses all day for 3€ and can also be purchased onboard the bus. A night bus service operates in a circular route from 22:00 until 04:00.

There are many routes in Monaco with most stopping in Monte-Carlo and the train station.
There are also buses connecting Monaco with Menton and Nice.

It's available throughout the Principality, but one does not hail in the Street in Monaco. It's necessary to go to a taxi rank (list below) or phone one.

If you need a taxi to take you to the airport, it’s a good idea to book at least a day ahead. A taxi to or from the Nice airport costs approximately 80€.

Car Rentals

Car rentals are available from International and domestic companies. It's easiest to rent a car at the Nice airport.

Regulations: Drivers must possess a national drivers license. The minimum age to drive a car in Monaco is 18 and 15 for a motorcycle under 125cc. The minimum age for renting a car in Monaco ranges from 21 to 25.
