Prior to this date, the National Gardens were part of the Imperial Palace grounds.In the Garden Plaza approximately 2,000 Japanese Black Pines are planted in the lawn area. These pine trees blend in very well with the "Yaguras"(old watch towers) and gates, and also with the several moats which are all remnant of Edo Castle. This area has become very popular with the people of Japan.
And in the north of the Imperial Palace, Kitanomaru area has its large park combined with the National Gardens and it is a nice are for a walk and bird-watching. Each season plants and flowers change their colors and faces. In Kitanomaru Park, there are Science Museum and The National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo and etc.
