: Must-see History & Culture For couples For family For Travel alone For Senior For young people For group EncounterThe State Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow is one of the largest museums in Russia with over 62 rooms and 100,000 works of art including famous Russian icons, paintings, graphics and sculpture displayed from the 11th century to the 19th century. It was opened in 1870 by Pavel Tretyakov, who was a lover of an art and successful manager of an industry, donating his great collection. This museum is composed of two galleries "Works of Art in the Tretyakov Gallery" and "New Tretyakov Gallery". The former houses icons, portraits, other many valuable works, and Church of St. Nicholas in Tolmachi, where Tretyakov himself used. The latter contains modern Russian masterpieces, including works of Socialist Realism and the masterpieces of Kandinsky, Chagall and Malevich.
