One of the most important theater in Brazil, even in South America. Joao Gilberto famous Brazilian bossa nova singer also gave a live here.

Is located in the corner of historic buildings line the streets, Rio de Janeiro Municipal Theatre is one of the most important theater in South America as well as Brazil. In this beautiful building, which opened in 1909, performances of great artists and music ballet, opera inside and outside Brazil is done. Joao Gilberto of the famous Brazilian bossa nova singer also gave a live here.
Design is based on the model of the Paris Opera, the theater was built in the eclectic style. Opened in about five years after the start of construction of 1905, number of seats opening at that time was 1,739 seats, but has been increased to 2,361 seats by the current renovation of 1934. Renovation of about one and a half years is the end in 2010, the figure of the opening time has been restored.
