It was constructed between 1907 and 1911 and designed by two French architects. The building is crowned with a magnificent black dome, accentuated with gilded ornaments. The eye-catching structure, decorated with numerous sculptures, is especially beautiful at night.

In 1972 Metrópolis Seguros acquired the building, and the previous owner decided to take the original statue, by then very familiar in Madrid's skyline, to their new headquarters.
