It was the royal palace located in downtown Naples. Built around 1600 when Naples was under Spanish rule to host King Phillip III of Spain. But the King never came and it was not completed for two centuries.
The huge 18th century nativity scene in the Cappella Reale (Royal Chapel) is must-see place.
This royal palace is also houses the national library which contains thousands of papyrus scrolls found at Herculaneum and the remains of a 5th century Coptic bible. It is one of the most impressive palaces in southern Italy and ranks among the top tourist attractions in the city.
