Neo-gothic style church is an emblem of the city

Its construction started by architect Charles Lenormand in 1864. And the church is “blessed” on 3 may 1868 by Mgr Sola during a mass even if it was not completed. Its French style was progected to modernize the city as Nice had been France since 1860. Overcoming some difficulities such as debts for construction and earthquake disaster, Notre-Dame de l’Assomption is consecrated in march 1925 and receives the title of “Minor Basilica” in april 1978. Its exterior looks like Notre-Dame in Paris with less decorations, but it's considered most beautiful church in this area. Interior is full of artistic works: stained-glass (1868), dipicts (19th century), wood-works and iron-works. Now the church is used not only for religional ceremony but also for concerts and recitals which take place all year round.
