La Merce Festival is annual festival will be held every year, around September 24th in Barcelona. This biggest city festival in the city offers a sincere prayer of thanks to patron saint, Merce who protected the city from disaster. A castell is a human tower that has a history of over 200 years. It was registered as a UNESCO's Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2010. The motto of Castellers is "strength", "balance", "courage" and "common sense".
The Giants parade is a one of popular event in this festival. Huge giants and statues of kings, queens and nobles parade through the streets to the sound of beating drums. The giants dance on the streets !
Sardana is a circle dance of Barcelona Catalan. Catalan and this dance were prohibition under Franco's dictatorship. But now people sometime dance on Sunday. Sardana is a symbol of Catalan unity and pride.
