Ameya Yokocho (Ameyoko)

Market with great prices!

Ameyoko is a busy market street along the Yamanote Line tracks between Okachimachi and Ueno Stations. They sell products ranging from clothes, bags, cosmetics, fresh fish, dried food, jewelry, traditional Japanese clothing, imported products to American military used items. You can find something you like in this market for good prices. And please be careful to not be lost since it is like a maze.
Now products and staffs seen at shops are international. Negociating prices with sellers is a highlight of this market. Opening hours and days closed depend on individual stores, but stores typically open around 8 am and close around 9 pm.

From Ueno station, it is Central exit you leave from the station. But this time it was Shinobazu Exit.

There are shops of military-related items in the market. They came to sell them after a lot of American products used to be available there when the street was the site of a black market in the years following World War II. "Ame" stands for "America", as well as candy.
