one of the oldest historical records of Japan

Ikutama Shrine, referred to as "Ikutama-san" by locals and sometimes by its older name, "Naniwa Oyashiro", has a history dating back to ancient times- it is even mentioned in the Nihon Shoki, ne of the oldest historical records of Japan. The shrine was relocated ti its current location in the sixteenth century in response to an order by Toyotomi Hideyoshi, to make room for the construction of Osaka Castle. Its wooden modern is a modern reconstruction, but it still possesses the elegant austerity of the classic Shinto architectural style-in fact, the Ikutama-zukuri architectural style is based on their very building. Be "branches" of other shrines from around Japan, as well as the surprisingly massive carp swimming near one of the orange gates.
